John M Philipchuck
With two decades of global investment and development experience, Mr. Philipchuck has established himself as a leading figure in the real estate industry. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of ImpactUs, LLC, a real estate investment and advisory firm, and Co-founder of Ancora L&G, LLC, an institutional investment and development platform focused on life sciences and technology real estate in partnership with and proximate to top-tier universities and research institutions in the U.S. In his role, he led a successful capital raise securing a $500 million equity partnership with London-based Legal & General Capital.
Mr. Philipchuck is the Chairman of the Global Exchange Council at the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a consortium of the world’s leading real estate professionals.
His multifaceted career encompasses entrepreneurship, real estate investment and development, and strategic advisory. Notably, he is launching a captive insurance company to help real estate owners launch their own captives and take greater control of their risk management.
Prior to launching ImpactUs, he was the Director of Research and Strategy at TH Real Estate (Nuveen/TIAA) where he served as a voting member of Americas Investment Committee, guiding TH’s $110 billion global equity and debt portfolio.
Mr. Philipchuck has previous experience Harrison Street Real Estate Capital in Chicago where he led research and supported capital raising efforts during the $1.9 billion take-private of student housing REIT Campus Crest Communities (NYSE:CCG), the $850 million equity capital raise of Fund V, and the $950 million raise of Fund VI.
Prior to Harrison Street, Mr. Philipchuck led Americas Research and Strategy at the sovereign wealth fund of the Government of Singapore, GIC Real Estate, in San Francisco. At GIC, he participated in the strategic acquisition of the IndCor industrial portfolio from Blackstone for $8.1 billion and the purchase of 101 California, a 1.25 million square foot office building in San Francisco alongside Canadian pension plan CPPIB.
Mr. Philipchuck began his career in real estate development in the Midwest region, managing a variety of projects and asset classes including land entitlement, retail, industrial, apartments, mixed-use, senior housing, student housing, single family homes, and master-planned communities.
Mr. Philipchuck earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance/Real Estate with a concentration in International Studies and a Minor in Spanish from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. While President of the Real Estate Club, he founded the Collegiate Real Estate Conference and partnered with DePaul University downtown Chicago. Since inception in 2004, thousands of students from top-tier universities have been introduced to the myriad career paths in real estate.
Mr. Philipchuck has authored several articles published by leading industry organizations, including the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) and the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) and has been quoted in the New York Times. He has been a member of NCREIF, PREA and the Urban Land Institute Research and Technology Forums. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Indiana University Center for Real Estate Studies.
On the personal front, Mr. Philipchuck is a proud husband and father of two tireless boys. He de-stresses outdoors, rides a cyclocross bike, and re-stresses on the golf course – he loves them all.
